FHS’ Delatte qualifies for state meet in the 100-meter hurdles

Franklinton’s Porsha Delatte is heading to the Class 4A state meet after qualifying in the Region 3-4A Meet on Wednesday at South Terrebonne.

Delatte made it to the state meet after winning the 100-meter hurdles. She ran the event in 16.43 seconds.

The meet was an opportunity for the competitors to reach the state meet. The top three in each event made it to state. The Class 4A state meet takes place Saturday, May 7 at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.

The Lady Demons had others in the regionals.

The 4×200 team (1 minute, 57 seconds), which featured Delatte, Jalyn Bickham, Tellise Magee and Jada Thompson, was 12th. Edna Karr won in 1:43.

The 4×100 team was 10th (53.87). A.J. Ellender won the event in 49.26.

Delatte was fifth in the 300-hurdles (49.44) in a close race. Bell Chasse’s Toni Corso won in 47.42.

Magee took 14th in the 200 (28.28), as Track MVP Nikole Haroon, of Warren Easton, won in 26.10.

Danaria Magee was 13th in the javelin (76-1), as Field MVP Samantha Zelden, of St. Scholastica Academy, topped the event at 145-5.

Franklinton finished 16th in the team competition with 12 points.

Vandebilt Catholic won with 80 and Karr was just six points behind, as 21 teams posted at least one point. Ellender (48) was third, followed by St. Scholastica Academy (48) and Ursuline Academy (47).
