Mt. Hermon’s Lady Jackets suffered a 12-1 loss at Negreet in five innings in the bi-district round of the Class B softball state playoffs held Friday.

Mt. Hermon, the 22nd-seeded team, trailed 4-0 through three innings.

“We got kids on base several times, but we just couldn’t score the runs,” Mt. Hermon coach Jeff Thomas said.

Thomas added that his team played hard the entire game.

In the fourth, No. 11 Negreet put up eight runs to add to its lead. Thomas said his club walked a few batters, and then Negreet’s bats came alive.

The Lady Jackets scored their run in the fifth. Alyssa Barber singled and reached third on a two-base error. Jolie Fortenberry scored on the play to make it a 12-1 contest.

“In some of our games, our bats came alive a little too late,” Thomas said.

Mt. Hermon finished the 2016 season with an 8-9 record.

The team had just one senior in Taylor Blanchard.

Thomas said Blanchard has been consistent in pitching and has been a team leader.

“Anytime I need the girls to have a team meeting, she’s always the one to step up to try and bring the girls back together,” Thomas said.

Negreet advanced to the regionals and played No. 6 Forest, but lost, 12-9. Forest had a bye in the first round.
