Mt. Hermon’s Bunch victorious in 2 events in district

Mt. Hermon’s Gerald Bunch was victorious in a pair of events at the District 7-B meet, which was hosted by Patrick Taylor Science/Technology, at Hoss Memtas Stadium on the campus of West Jefferson High School.
Bunch won the long jump and the 200-meters. He won the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 7.5 inches, and he topped the 200-meters with a run of 23.10 seconds.
Tuesday’s meet was a qualifying meet. The top four finishers from each event advanced to the Region III-B meet in Welsh on Tuesday, April 26.
Three Mt. Hermon boys athletes qualified for regionals over four events.
Device Taylor and Tyre Brumfield also moved on to regionals.
Taylor won the 800 with a time of 2:24. Brumfield qualified in the 200 with a fourth-place finish of 26.09.
Mt. Hermon finished third in the team competition with 22 points.
Patrick Taylor Science/Technology tallied 145 points to win, as four teams scored at least one point. Holden (22) was second and Slaughter (3) was fourth.
A few others from Mt. Hermon were in the top six.
Tanner Johnston (23-feet) and Austin Maples (21 feet, 8 inches) were fifth and sixth in the shot put, as Holden’s Cole Forbes won at 31-9.
Johnston (65-6.5) and Givens (64-5.25) finished fifth and sixth for the discus. John Sharp won that event at 94-11.5.
