Bogalusa’s Robertson heading to regionals in 4 individual events

Bogalusa’s Malon Robertson advanced to regionals in four individual events and Terry Owens advanced in three at the District 7-3A meet held at Jewel Sumner.

Robertson qualified in the high jump, triple jump, long jump and pole vault, while Owens qualified in the 800-meters, 1,600 and 3,200.

Robertson finished third in the pole vault (10 feet) and long jump (19 feet, 11.5 inches) and fourth during the triple jump (39-6) and high jump (5-6).

Albany’s Nipun Wadhwa won the pole vault at 11-6 while Amite’s DeVonta Smith topped the triple jump at 43-2.5. Amite’s Earl Maxwell, the field MVP, captured the high jump with a 6-0 and the long jump with a distance of 20-7.5.

Owens advanced to regionals with third-place finishes in the 800 (2 minutes, 22 seconds) and 1,600 (5:31), to go with a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 (12:32).

Jewel Sumner’s Austin James won the 800 in 1:59 while teammate and track MVP Austin Ballow won the 1,600 in 4:41 and the 3,200 at 10:00.

Wednesday’s meet was an opportunity for the athletes to qualify for regionals. The top four from each event at this meet moved on to the Region 3-3A meet, which takes place Wednesday, April 27, at Jewel Sumner.

Bogalusa finished fourth in the team competition with 75 points in a close meet. Amite won with 100 points, 13 more than second-place Jewel Sumner. Albany (78) took third and Independence (31) was fifth. Five teams scored at least one point.

Several more Lumberjacks are heading back to Jewel Sumner for regionals.

Daniel Fairley captured the discus with a distance of 115-4 and finished second in the shot put (38-9.25), as Sumner’s Jacovian Phillips won the event with a distance of 44-9.

All three of Bogalusa’s relay teams qualified. The 4×100 team (45.63) was third and the 4×200 (1:36) and 4×400 (3:52) squads finished fourth.

Bogalusa’s 4×100 runners were Javon Tate, Tyrese Roussell, Kim McGown and D’Angelo Mark. The 4×200 members were Mark, McGown, Raheem Morris and Clydeterrious Thompson. The 4×400 team included Thompson, Roberts, Roussell and Demarcus Spikes.

Amite won the 4×100 in 44.09 and the 4×200 at 1:31, while Albany won the 4×400 in 3:46.

Roberts finished third in both hurdles events — the 110 (21.54) and 300 (47.22).

Roussell was second in the 300 (47.07), and Dre’Toris Mark was fourth in the 110 (22.39).

Amite’s De’Aarion Sims won the 110 in 17.85 and James ran a 43.81 to capture the 300.

Kentrae’ Lewis was fourth in the 800 (2:22) and pole vault (8-6).

Thompson was runner-up in the 400 (54.71), and fourth during the 200 (24.61).

Amite’s Milton Sanders captured the 200 in 23.45 and his teammate Smith ran a 51.35 to win the 400.

Several other athletes competed in the meet for Bogalusa.

Tate was sixth in the long jump (19-2) and fifth in the triple jump (38-5).

Dre’Toris Mark was eighth in the discus (61-7).

Fairley (104-5) and Roussell (86-6) were sixth and seventh for the javelin, as Albany’s Hunter McKinley won at 135-7.

D’Angelo Mark ran the 100 in 12.55 to take seventh, as Sanders won in 11.33.
