Smith turns in another solid outing for Crusaders

William Carey’s Devin Smith put another solid outing together in the Crusaders’ 15-1 victory in seven innings over Tougaloo College on the road Tuesday.
The freshman, who graduated from Mt. Hermon last year, pitched a complete game, allowing six hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Smith was economical, as he only needed 78 pitches for the complete game.
This season, Smith has put up solid numbers. He is 5-0 with a 1.82 ERA, 18 strikeouts and 11 walks in 34-2/3 innings pitched. Smith has made seven appearances with six of those starts. Opponents are hitting just .200 against him.
William Carey scored early and often in Tuesday’s. The Crusaders tallied in every inning. They led 2-0 after one, 3-0 through two and then added four runs in the third to take a 7-0 advantage. William Carey scored three runs each in the fourth and sixth inning with a run each in the fifth and seventh.
Tuesday’s win put William Carey record at 27-12.
