Franklinton captures Cowboy Relays, Cotton wins Field MVP

Franklinton was victorious in the Cowboy Relays and Deante Cotton took home field MVP honors at Jewel Sumner on Monday.

The Demons won the meet with 129 points by 23 over Port Allen, as eight teams tallied at least one point.

West Feliciana finished third with 89, followed by Amite (66) and Loranger (63).

The Demons were the only Washington Parish team in the meet.

Cotton won the field MVP award after winning the discus and finishing second in the shot put. His discus throw was 148 feet, 1 inch, while he recorded a 46-3.5 in the shot put. Teammate Kobe Crain competed in both events and finished sixth in the discus (107-8) and eighth in the shot put (38-1.5).

West Feliciana’s Ricky Chatman won the shot put at 48-9.

Franklinton’s Tavion Partman and Peter Williams also won an event each.

Partman was victorious in the long jump at 21-9.5, finishing ahead of Williams, who was at 21-4.75.

Williams won the javelin at 153-8, as teammate Rodney King was third, posting a 127-3.

Williams (41-11.5) and Partman (41-11) took second and third in the triple jump, as Amite’s DeVonta Smith won at 44-9.

Williams finished third in the high jump at 6-0 while teammate Samuel Smith was eighth at 5-6. Port Allen’s Michael Williams won the event with a height of 6-2.

King and Dakeithan Gholar were in both hurdle events.

King (17.28 seconds) and Gholar (20.13) were fourth and eighth in the 110s, as Port Allen’s Cameron Battley topped everyone at 15.70.

King (43.85) and Gholar (45.73) were third and sixth for the 300-hurdles, as Loranger’s A.J. Warren was victorious in 41.52.

Franklinton finished third in all three relay events, the 4×100 (43.17), 4×200 (1 minute 30 seconds) and 4×400 (3:51).

The 4×100 team featured Partman, Azende T. Magee, Chandler Davis and Martavius James. The 4×200 squad consisted of Azende T. Magee, Azende O. Magee, James and Davis. The 4×400 runners were James, Gholar, Justin Hills and Azende O. Magee.

James was second in the 200 (22.32), finishing behind West Feliciana’s Derek Turner (22.18), who won the close race. FHS’ Rakerian Conerly (24.59) was 13th.

Azende O. Magee (2:16) and William Walters (2:29) ran third and sixth in the 800 with Jewel Sumner’s Justin Adams winning the race at 2:03.

Azende T. Magee (11.30) finished fifth in the 100-meters and Conerly (11.82) was 10th. Smith won in 11.01.

Hills (55.25) and Jaquan Anthony (57.19) were was seventh and eighth in the 400, as Smith won the event in 51.27.

Noah Hunt tallied a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 (13:58) with Sumner Middle’s Nick Story winning at 11:22.

Trace Ballard was third in the 1,600 (5:24) and Justyn Miller (6:13) was 11th. Loranger’s Brandon Rico ran a 5:14 to win.
