Louisiana State University captured the LSU Golf Classic in lopsided fashion Tuesday at the University Club.

The Tigers, the defending champions, finished at 6-under par and won by 25 strokes over runner-up Southeastern Louisiana University, which was 19-over in the six-team field.

Nicholls State (42-over) was third, followed by Lamar (47-over), University of New Orleans (57-over) and Jackson State University (118-over).

Individually, LSU’s Brandon Pierce tied SLU’s Lawrence Allan for fifth place at 2-over par.

Pierce’s father, Chavgney Pierce, and his grandparents on his father’s side, Huey Pierce and Martha Pierce, are from Bogalusa. His mother, Rebecca Pierce, was an engineer at the Bogalusa paper mill and taught at Bogalusa High School.

Tigers golfers Zach Wright, Eric Ricard and Luis Gange finished in a three-way tie for first place in a tight competition, as teammate Sam Burns was fourth at even par.

SLU’s Paul Obermann and Rhyne Jones tied for seventh at 3-over with Lamar’s Charlie Flowers a stroke behind for ninth and UNO’s Markus Krieger 10th at 5-over par.

LSU is back in action with the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Golf Club today and tomorrow.
