Moses picked as District 8-1A’s MVP

Varnado’s Tarralyn Moses was named the District 8-1A MVP and several VHS players were named to the top two teams in the league.

Moses was part of a team that went 15-12 and went to the Class 1A playoffs as the No. 29 seed.

Varnado lost to fourth-seeded Montgomery, 68-45, in the opening round. Montgomery reached the semifinals, but lost to top-seeded and eventual state champion Arcadia, 64-48.

Moses was joined on the first squad by teammate Yienna Kemp.

Varnado’s Ke’arria Green was named to the second team.

A pair of VHS players were selected to the all-district honorable mention group, including Quierra Bickham and Jaden Foster.

The District 8-1A Coach of the Year is Houma Christian’s Chuck Battaglia.

Two Houma Christian players are on the first team — Diojhae Thomas and Alicia Johnson.

Houma Christian made the postseason as the No. 7 seed, but lost in the regional round to 10th-seeded Delhi, 55-51.

Rounding out the first team is Covenant Christian Academy’s Marianna Charles.

Houma Christian had three players on the second team, including Kourtne Lee, Bre Harding and Jayda Ward.

One more player made the second team in Covenant Christian’s Breionté Jasper.

The honorable mentions included St. Martin’s Episcopal players Abbey Sims, Queen Tervalon and Gabby Killet, and Covenant Christian Academy’s Catlin Harris.
