Varnado Wildcats tally 3-0 record in recent contests

Varnado won both of its games at the Independence Tournament, which took place last Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Wildcats were victorious over Independence, 13-0, in six innings.

Xavier Moses threw a complete shutout. Moses struck out eight and walked seven.

Offensively, Trace Lozier, JaKyle Newkirk and Jaylan Jefferson all had two hits. Lozier doubled and drove in four runs. Newkirk tripled twice, scored three runs and drove in one. Jefferson recorded two RBIs.

Varnado won Saturday’s game, 12-10, over Kentwood.

Newkirk posted two hits. One of them was a solo homer.

Errol Varnado had three hits, including a double, two runs scored, two RBIs and one of the runs batted in was on a sacrifice fly.

JaRoderick Robinson posted two hits and scored a run.

In Monday’s action, which was separate from the tournament, the Wildcats were victorious over Independence, 15-5, in five innings at the Bogalusa Sports Complex.

Lozier had another strong day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Moses recorded three hits in three at bats. He drove in two, scored twice and swiped a base.  Robinson logged a hit, tallied three runs, stole two bases and coaxed two walks.

D.J. Jefferson was the winning pitcher. He threw three innings, allowing two runs with five walks and three strikeouts.

Varnado and Moses pitched an inning each in relief. Varnado struck out two hitters and Moses struck out three.
