Wildcats pull away from Independence

Several players had big games, as Varnado was victorious over Class 3A Independence, 14-5, in Tuesday’s road game.

Xavier Moses had a hit in all three at-bats and he drew two walks. Two of the hits were triples and he drove in three runs. Moses also scored twice.

Jaylan Jefferson went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and two walks. On the mound, he got the win, throwing a complete game and allowing two earned runs with 12 strikeouts and nine walks.

Dearius Parker posted two hits, including a triple, an RBI and a run.

Jermaine Sanders was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt and a safety squeeze. He finished with two RBIs.

Courtesy runner Jaccourius Bickham stole a base and scored four times.

Varnado led 6-5 through five innings, but the Wildcats pulled away late by scoring five in the sixth and three in the seventh.
