Pine recorded a 3-0 record at its tournament this year, as four Washington Parish teams competed in the three-day event that took place from Thursday, Feb. 25, through Saturday, Feb. 27.

In Thursday’s action, Varnado and Pine were victorious 10-4 and 20-1 over Amite and Independence, respectively.

The following day, Pine defeated Varnado, 14-2, in five innings.

Pine 14, Varnado 2 (5 innings)

Dillon Morris, who had a huge game, led the Raiders’ offensive attack with two hits, including a double. Morris drove in five runs and scored two.

Jamie Adcox and Rion Terrell recorded two hits each and both tallied two runs. Adcox also posted an RBI.

Kaleb Voth doubled and scored, while Trey Cooper and Connor Holmes both singled, scored twice and drove in a run.

Ethan Knight and Tate Roach each singled and scored a run. Knight also had two RBIs.

Harrison Jones also scored a run for the Raiders.

Pine’s offense finished with 11 hits and took advantage of five errors that led to nine unearned runs.

Winning pitcher Knight threw three innings, allowing a run on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Holmes allowed one unearned run in two innings of work with two strikeouts and a walk.

Varnado, which had a 2-1 record, logged four hits, one each by Trace Lozier, Jaylan Jefferson, Xavier Moses and Jermaine Sanders. Sanders also had a run scored.

Dearius Parker had an RBI and Jaccourius Bickham scored a run.

Bogalusa 22, Independence 2

In the next game, Bogalusa, which went 1-1, cruised past Independence 22-2, behind a five-inning combined no-hitter with Thomas Turner and Trevion Harris.

Turner finished with four strikeouts and two walks that scored. One scored on a steal of home. Harris recorded eight strikeouts.

Jay Baham had a solid game. He singled twice, doubled and stole four bases.

Meechie Baham and Sheylyn Griffin both singled twice.

Turner and Tron Dillon singled for Bogalusa.

Amite 14, Mt. Hermon 4

In the only game of the tournament that took place at Mt. Hermon, the Yellow Jackets suffered a 14-4 loss to Amite on Friday.

Mt. Hermon, which lost both of its games, hung tough for five innings and trailed just 7-4 heading to the sixth, but Amite scored two in the sixth and five more in the seventh.

Mt. Hermon had three hits for the game. Dylan Clark posted two hits while Jase Fortenberry doubled and drove in a run.

Preston Knight had an RBI for Mt. Hermon.

Varnado 4, Mt. Hermon 2

In Saturday’s action, Varnado won 4-2 against Mt. Hermon.

Brandon Jefferson logged a hit, drove in three, walked twice and scored a run.

Ja’Roderick Robinson had a hit, an RBI and a run, while Ja’Kyle Newkirk finished with a hit, two walks, three steals and two runs.

Moses went six innings, allowing two runs with seven strikeouts and five walks.

Jaylan Jefferson picked up the save with a scoreless seventh. He struck out two and  walked a hitter.

Mt. Hermon’s Clark went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a walk.

The Yellow Jackets left 12 runners on base.

Pine 9, Bogalusa 7

The tournament’s final game involving at least one local team capped off the tournament, as Pine topped Bogalusa, 9-7.

Pine jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three innings, but Bogalusa tied the game with a run in the fourth and five in the fifth.

Pine responded with three runs in its half of the fifth to go up 9-6. Bogalusa scored a run in the seventh, but came up short.

Holmes posted two hits for Pine and he scored twice. Morris, Adcox, Roach and Voth all had one hit.

Adcox, Morris and Roach all doubled for the Raiders.

Morris drove in two, Roach and Voth posted an RBI and two runs scored each.

Cooper, Knight and Landon Fonda all tallied a run while Jones had an RBI.

Morris was the winning pitcher after throwing 2.1 innings and allowing a run on two hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

Bogalusa’s Turner went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored.

Baham, Caleb Greely, Harlum McGee, Payton Knight and Chas Smith all had one hit. Greely, who doubled, scored a pair of runs while Baham and Smith scored one each.

Dillon and Ja’quarius Baham both recorded a run scored.

The Lumberjacks committed six errors that ended up leading to eight unearned runs.

Knight was the losing pitcher. He gave up three runs, none of which were earned, on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Pine committed three errors, which led to four unearned runs.
