Bowling Green’s Ashley Foret had a solid season this year and has been rewarded for it by being selected to play in the MAIS AAA-AAAA all-star game tomorrow.

“It’s a really big honor and it’s a privilege,” Foret said. “I’m excited about getting to play with some of the people I’ve been competing against for the last four years.”

Foret said she is excited about playing in the contest.

“I’m really excited because I see it as my last opportunity to play in a high school basketball game,” Foret said.

When asked about how important a victory in this game is, Foret said she plays to win every time she plays.

“I told my parents and I told my coach for this game that a lot of times people don’t play defense in the all-star game,” Foret said. “That’s not going to happen with me, because I play to win.”

This season, Foret put up solid numbers. Foret averaged 15.1 points per game and hit 47.3 percent of her field goal attempts (201-of-422) and 36.4 percent of her 3-pointers (59-of-162).

Foret averaged 4.2 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists a contest.

The all-star game begins at 1 p.m., and takes place at Madison Ridgeland Academy.

This season, Foret was part of a Lady Buccaneers’ team that went 35-7. The team won the District 5AAA tournament and the South State Tournament before finishing as runner-up in the Class AAA Tournament.

The Lady Buccaneers reached the overall tournament, but lost to the eventual overall champion Jackson Academy in the second round.

Foret said the season’s conclusion was bittersweet, but she enjoyed the journey.

“I wish it could’ve ended differently, but this was the closest team I’ve been on, basketball-wise, and I wouldn’t trade a moment,” she said.
