Varnado hung tough in Thursday’s playoff game against fourth-seeded Montgomery, but ended up losing the contest, 68-45, on the road.

Varnado trailed 26-23 at halftime, but ran into foul trouble in the third period and trailed 47-33 after three quarters.

No. 29 Varnado finished the 2015-16 season with a 15-12 record.

“I was very proud of them,” Varnado coach Lubertha Peters said. “Everybody stepped up. It was one of the best games they played all season. We ran into a little bit of foul trouble in the third quarter, but they played hard the entire game. I knew they could play better and they proved it (Thursday) night.”

The team had six seniors, including Tyquasia Allen, Ke’arria Green, Tiairria Green, Kemp, Moses and Breanna Holmes.

Montgomery advances to the regional round and plays No. 13 Kentwood. Kentwood defeated 20th-seeded Cedar Creek, 47-34.
