Bogalusa suffered a 52-40 loss to Westlake, in the bi-district round of the Class 3A playoffs on the road Thursday.

The 26th-seeded Lady Jacks played the seventh-seeded team close the entire game. Westlake led 19-15 after one quarter, and 28-21 at halftime.

Bogalusa trimmed the lead to 38-35 through three quarters, but came up short in the loss.

“I was super proud of the girls,” Bogalusa coach Ken Matthews said. “They gave a great effort the whole ball game. We were the lower seed, but they played like the higher seed. They never gave up. They played with guts, grit and confidence. We just didn’t prevail.”

D’Sha Rankins scored 19 points to lead the Lady Jacks. Nylijah Mingo posted 10 points, before fouling out in the third quarter.

Lulu Ball recorded six points while Diamond Martin had three and Kiara Walker added two.

Bogalusa’s seniors are Rankins, Mingo and Jasmine May.

Matthews said he is proud of his senior group.

“Even though they had to get a new coach, they helped me keep the team in tune through the transition,” Matthews said.

Westlake plays No. 10 Wossman in the regional round of the postseason. Wossman defeated No. 23 Brusly, 52-42, in the opening round.
