Bowling Green advances in Class AAA Tourney

Bowling Green jumped out a big halftime lead en route to a 66-22 victory over Heritage Academy in the opening round of the Class AAA Tournament at Brookhaven Academy on Wednesday.

Ashley Foret scored 13 points to lead the Lady Buccaneers. She also grabbed five rebounds, made five steals and dished out two assists.

Hallie Robertson tallied 12 points on 4-of-6 from the field, which were all 3-point attempts. Robertson finished with three rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Hollie Waskom was also 4-of-6 on shot attempts, on her way to nine points. She hit her only free-throw attempt. Waskom pulled down four rebounds and had one assist.

Sydney Watson and McKinley Seal posted eight points each. Watson had an assist and four steals. Seal pulled down 12 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end, dished out nine assists and made five steals.

Peyton Stogner totaled six points and one rebound.

Shelby McDonald and Caliee Fruge had four points each. McDonald posted three boards, two assists and two steals.

Mason Edwards recorded two points, four boards and a steal.

The Lady Buccaneers, who never trailed, jumped out to a 5-0 lead and maintained the five-point lead through the first quarter and led 15-10 after one.

Bowling Green extended the lead in the second.

Up 24-14, the Lady Buccaneers capped off the first half on a 23-5 run and had a 47-19 lead at halftime.

Bowling Green plays Kirk Academy today at 1 p.m. The winner will play in the Class AAA championship game at 2:15 p.m. tomorrow.
