SLIDELL — Franklinton’s turnovers and Salmen’s 3-pointers were key points in a 65-50 Lady Demons’ loss in District 8-4A play Thursday on the road.

“That was gameplan — eliminate the turnovers and we can win,” Franklinton coach Elecia Crain said. “If not, that’s the way it works.”

Three-pointers accounted for nearly half of Salmen’s points, as the Lady Spartans were successful on 10 shots from behind the arc. Ariana Cooks led the home team in 3-pointers made with five and she tallied 17 points.

Jaylen Huderson was Salmen’s leading scorer with 21 points.

Franklinton’s Danaria Magee led all scorers with 25 points.

The game was close early on, as the Lady Demons trailed 15-13 with 42 seconds left, but Cooks hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, extending the lead to 18-13 through the first quarter.

The Lady Demons trailed by three at 24-21 at the six-minute mark of the second quarter, but Salmen began to take control. The Lady Spartans went on a 17-0 run and had a 41-21 lead with 51.4 seconds to go.

Deja Martin, who tallied 13 points, ended the run with a layup with 24 seconds left. It was 41-23 at that point and 43-25 at the halftime break.

Salmen continued to extend the lead in the third quarter, as Franklinton was outscored 13-10 in the third quarter and the Lady Demons trailed 56-35 through three.

The Lady Demons were down 64-44 with about 3:30 left and scored the next six points.

Martin pulled down an offensive board and hit the putback before Magee hit a pair of layups. It was 64-50 with 1:09 left.

Franklinton fell to 8-20 overall and 5-4 in league play.
