BGS Lady Bucs crush Centreville

The Bowling Green Lady Bucs had little trouble dispatching Centreville Academy at home Thursday, taking the game by a score of 68-44.

Bowling Green led 28-9 after one quarter of play, and 41-18 at halftime. Centreville outscored the Lady Bucs 14-7 in the third quarter, but Bowling Green bounced back to win the fourth quarter, 20-12.

Bowling Green won easily, despite shooting poorly from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Bucs were just 2-of-21 from 3-point range (9.5 percent). However, they made up for it by shooting 26-of-40 (65.0 percent) on their 2-point shots.

The Lady Bucs were 10-of-16 from the free-throw line, or 62.5 percent.

Ashley Foret led Bowling Green with 16 points, and added four rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Hollie Wascom finished with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sydney Watson and Katelin Junkins each added 10 points.

Junkins also finished with four rebounds and two steals, while Watson added four rebounds, an assist and two steals.

McKinley Seal and Cailee Fruge led the Lady Bucs with five rebounds each.

Also scoring for Bowling Green were Fruge with seven points, Jadyn Jenkins and Shelby McDonald with four points each, and Seal with three points.

The Lady Bucs used an early 12-0 run to break the game open.

Foret hit a jumper early in the game, and then Junkins knocked down two free throws to make it 4-0.

Wascom, Foret, Watson and Junkins each hit field goals before Centreville finally got on the board.

Bowling Green had another 10-0 run early in the second quarter. Up 29-14, Watson hit a 3-pointer and Wascom followed with a field goal.

Wascom hit a free throw and Watson and Jenkins knocked down consecutive 2-pointers. Centreville broke the run when a free throw cut Bowling Green’s lead to 39-15.

Bowling Green is scheduled to play Saturday, Jan. 9, in a girls-only game at Alexandria. The Lady Bucs will travel to face Silliman Institute on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
