Lady Bucs go 2-1 at Columbia event

Bowling Green jumped out to a huge halftime lead and never trailed en route to a 62-23 victory over Sumrall during a game Monday, Dec. 28, in the Columbia Academy Christmas Tournament.

The Lady Buccaneers scored the game’s first six points before Sumrall hit a free throw to make it 6-1.

Hollie Waskom scored the first four points before Katelin Junkins added to the lead with a 2-pointer.

Bowling Green then added five more to its lead to go up 11-1. Ashley Foret converted a 3-point play before hitting a field goal to account for the five-consecutive points.

Lady Bucs were ahead, 21-6, after the first quarter.

In the second period, Bowling Green ended any doubt about the outcome, as the Lady Bucs outscored Sumrall, 26-1, to take a 47-9 lead to the break.

Sumrall won the third quarter, 8-3, but Bowling Green outscored its opponent, 12-6, in the final period to reflect the 62-23 final.

Three players hit double figures for Bowling Green, as all three scored 11 points, including Foret, Waskom and Junkins.

Foret was 5-of-7 from the field. She finished with seven steals, four assists and a rebound.

Waskom also hit five of her seven shots, including a 3-pointer. She added three steals and an assist.

Junkins was 3-for-5 from the floor, including a 3-pointer. Junkins also grabbed a rebound and made a steal.

Cailee Fruge tallied six points on 2-of-3 shooting to go with two rebounds and a steal.

Sydney Watson, Jadyn Jenkins and Hallie Robertson all finished with five points.

Watson hit half of her four shot attempts, including a 3-pointer. She also dished out two assists.

Jenkins was 2-of-3 in field goals, including a 3-pointer. She had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Robertson grabbed two rebounds and had a pair of steals.

Shelby McDonald posted four points, a rebound and two assists.

McKinley Seal and Peyton Stogner scored two points each.

Seal had six assists, three steals and three boards.

Stogner finished with a rebound and a steal.

Bowling Green shot 50 percent (22-for-44) from the field and there were assists on 17 of the 22 made shots.

The Lady Bucs recorded 20 steals as a team.

East Rankin 60,

Bowling Green 49

On Wednesday, Dec. 30, the Lady Bucs suffered a 60-49 loss to East Rankin Academy.

Foret posted 21 points, five rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Seal recorded nine points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Waskom had eight points, five steals, two boards and a block.

Watson tallied five points.

Bowling Green 50, Enterprise 22

The Lady Bucs closed out tournament play on Saturday, Jan. 2, with a 50-22 win over Enterprise.

Foret had 13 points and Fruge added 10.
