Bogalusa captured the District 7-3A title Friday night by defeating Jewel Sumner, 35-14, on the road.

“We are ecstatic about it,” Bogalusa first-year coach David Roberts said. “The kids played hard. I thought they’d be rowdy on the bus, but they went to sleep. The kids have worked so hard. We started slow (lost first three games).

“I told them to keep fighting. We were playing a tough schedule and I felt this would work out for them. They kept fighting and never gave up.”

The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead.

Tym Toussaint, who ran for four touchdowns and threw for another, scored the first two touchdowns on the ground.

Bogalusa closed out the first half with a “Hail Mary” pass. Toussaint completed the pass for about 50 yards to Tramarcus Levi.

Jewel Sumner came back in the third quarter, as the Cowboys scored to begin the second half.
Bogalusa fumbled the following kickoff and Sumner recovered. The Cowboys scored on that drive, trimming the lead to 20-14.
But the Lumberjacks pulled away in the fourth quarter, as Toussaint added two rushing touchdowns to seal the victory.

Bogalusa is 5-4 this season and finishes district play at 4-0. The Lumberjacks are on a four-game winning streak and have won five of their last six.

The Lumberjacks will close out the regular season on the road against Holy Cross on Friday, Nov. 6.
