The Pine High School Raiders hosted the Independence High School Tigers Friday in their third game of the season, eventually losing by a 42-7 score.
Independence was coming off a loss last week against St. Helena, while Pine was trying to recover from an 0-2 start to the season.
It was a hard fought first half for the Raiders. In the first play of the game, Raider Brandon Kelley opened with the kick to Tiger Michael Tanner who fumbled on the catch. Raider Jarwin Jordan recovered the ball giving Pine its first chance to score. Raider Joey Seal led a strong push toward the endzone, which ended with a field goal attempt by Kelley. The ball went wide and Independence got possession of the ball.
Unfortunately, Independence would score 35 unanswered points before the Raiders got on the board.
The Raiders rallied a response with an 88 yard, six-play push down field which left the Raiders on the 1 yard line. Seals kept the ball and pushed through the center of the Tigers’ line to put Pine on the board. Raider Colton Terrell made the extra point and the score moved to 35-7.
Independence added one final touchdown in the fourth quarter.
