Ben’s Ford Christian School led 16-14 late in the third, but Centreville scored the game’s final 26 points, as the Eagles suffered a 40-16 loss at home in the Eagles’ District 5AAA opener.
The Eagles were in front, 16-14, late in the third period, but Centreville scored a touchdown to take a 21-16 advantage going into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, Ben’s Ford threw an interception and Centreville scored on the ensuing drive, extending the lead to 27-16.
Ben’s Ford turned the ball over on downs twice on its own end with less than six minutes remaining, which gave Centreville good field position.
“I’m proud of the kids,” Ben’s Ford coach Cole Holden said. “I feel like we came out and gave them everything they wanted for three quarters.
“In the fourth quarter, we had some costly miscues that cost us the game. We’ve got to clean that up, but other than that, I thought we got after them pretty good.”
Corey Caldwell caught both Ben’s Ford touchdowns on passes from Daniel Pittman. Dionte Fernandez caught a two-point conversion and Pittman ran for the other. Pittman surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for passing yards this season.
