Bogalusa hung in for the first half against Southern Lab last Friday, but the Kittens scored two touchdowns each in the third and fourth quarter, as the Lumber Jacks fell in the opener, 35-0, last Friday night at Glen Oaks.
Bogalusa trailed just 7-0 at halftime. Southern Lab’s touchdown came on a drive after an interception. The Kittens took over at the 50, converted two third downs and scored on an 8-yard run.
Southern Lab led 21-0 after three and 35-0 was the final.
“We had too many turnovers,” Bogalusa coach David Roberts said. “We had a breakdown on a punt return that they brought back for a touchdown. They returned an interception for a touchdown. It’s hard to beat a good team like Southern Lab when you turn the ball over.”
Bogalusa turned the ball over three times — two interceptions and a fumble.
On the positive side, Roberts said he was happy the team eliminated some of the penalties.
“We didn’t have near as many penalties as we did in the jamboree (against Northlake Christian School),” Roberts said. “We’ve just got to finish drives and not turn the ball over.”
Roberts said Tym Toussaint had some nice runs and Sean Forbes had a really good catch for about 30 yards.
Defensively, Jymon Jackson and Diante Lenoir each intercepted a pass.
Bogalusa’s next game is the home opener Friday, Sept. 11 against St. James. St. James fell to West St. John 12-6 last week.
