History coming alive, Lumberjacks hold reunion at Bino’s

History came alive once again at Bino’s Seafood Restaurant in Bogalusa at the Lumberjacks’ reunion.

Former Bogalusa High School athletes gathered, told stories and reminisced about their high school playing careers at Bogalusa.

The annual event had historic items around the restaurant such as programs, jerseys and a letterman jacket from the past.

It was also an opportunity for those had not yet met Bogalusa’s new football, coach David Roberts, who is embarking on his first season with the Lumberjacks, to do so.

This was Roberts’ first time attending the reunion.

“I thought it was awesome,” Roberts said. “I think it’s great that they do this once a year and have lunch. I wish my old high school did that. It’s great that they come back every year to do this. People came from all over for this luncheon. It shows how much pride they have in their school. There were people from many different generations that showed up. I wish some of our kids would’ve been there to learn more about the people that played here before them.”

Roberts said the thing most important thing he took out of the reunion is that the people would come back.

“These guys want to help with the program and they still support the program,” Roberts said. “It means the world to me that they have so much pride in this program.”

When asked about getting a chance to meet the former players, Roberts said it was eye opening.

“I’ve done a little research on Bogalusa and Bogalusa football,” Roberts said. “Hearing their stories on how they remembered it was great. Not all of these guys are from Bogalusa. Bogalusa isn’t just off of the interstate, so they had to make an effort to get here. We need to make that same type of effort each week to make these guys proud.”

Bogalusa enters this season after back-to-back 4-7 seasons. The Lumberjacks reached the playoffs in both seasons, but lost in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs.

The Lumberjacks’ spring game is coming up.

It is taking place May 15 at home against Mentorship Academy.
