The annual Lumberjacks’ reunion is taking place tomorrow at Bino’s Seafood restaurant, as current and former Bogalusa High School athletes are invited.

The event, which begins at 10 a.m., celebrates the history of the Lumberjacks, and gives those in attendance a chance to reminisce about the past.

Each year, different historical things are brought out to celebrate the history of Bogalusa athletics. Jerseys and programs, are just some of the items they bring out for this occasion. When the event began in 1997, it was only for football players, but has since expanded to all Bogalusa athletes.

“I think it’s great,” former Bogalusa coach Gary Magee said. “What they’re doing is bringing the old and the young together. That’s where you always get to hear the great stories. I played at Central, finished college, came back, coached at Central and then I went to Bogalusa. I saw a lot of good athletes and some great athletes. I still have a great working relationship with many of the former athletes.”

Magee is a 1955 Central Memorial graduate. He coached at Central from 1960-69. When Bogalusa and Central merged, he went to Bogalusa and coached there until 1975.

Magee was part of four state titles across three sports at Central and Bogalusa. He was an assistant football coach for Bogalusa’s 1969 title when the the Lumberjacks went 15-0. He was also Bogalusa’s head track coach in 1975 for the state title team.

At Central, Magee was an assistant coach on the 1961 football state championship team and an assistant for baseball’s 1966 title.

After leaving coaching, he went into administration through 1994 at Bogalusa.

Current and former Lumberjacks’ athletes are invited to attend the event.
