Franklinton’s golf team reaches the regional round

Franklinton’s Demons advanced to the regionals at the District 3-II Boys Golf Championship, which took place Wednesday at the Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette.

Franklinton finished fourth with a combined score of 385 among the four golfers to advance.

There were two ways participants could advance to the regional round.

The top four teams moved on, and the top four golfers who were not on an advancing team also qualified for regionals.

Zach Ginn led Franklinton with a 77. Dillen Reeves carded a 96.

Michael Scallen shot a 101 and Brett Bryant finished with a 111.

Ginn’s score was the fourth best in a field of 40.

Teurlings Catholic’s Taylor Morton topped the competition with 71.

Loranger’s Kristopher Kerr was just three strokes behind for the runner up finish. Teurlings Catholic’s Drew Reaux was third at 75.

Teurlings Catholic won the team competition with a 316. Brusly High School came in second at 368, followed by Lutcher High School’s 374.

The four golfers who qualified individually were Kerr, West Feliciana teammates Mathes Hughes (76) and Mills McClendon (78) and Live Oak’s Tyler Cain.

Franklinton is back on the links Monday for the regional round.

The regionals begin at 8 a.m.

Monday’s round is taking place Atchafalaya Golf Course in Patterson.
