Franklinton falls to St. Thomas, opens playoffs at Lakeshore

Franklinton’s Lady Demons suffered a 16-6 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas in a game held last Friday at STA.
Franklinton trailed 4-0 through three, but the Lady Demons rebounded with five runs in the fourth to take the lead.
Hannah Adams reached on an error. She advanced to second on a passed ball before scoring when Haley Sanford hit a two-run homer to left field.
Carley Shipley restarted things with a single and Bethany Sandifer continued the hit parade, with another single.
Laken Spears walked.
After the first out, Austen Felder walked and picked up a run batted in, as Shipley scored, trimming the score to 4-3.
Baylee Mixon tied the game by showing patience and drawing another RBI walk.
Katelyn Capo gave Franklinton the lead when she hit a ball to centerfield. Spears scored, and Felder was out at third but the Lady Demons were in the lead, 5-4, after four innings of play.
St. Thomas Aquinas went back in front, 6-5, in the fifth but the Lady Demons tied the game in the top of the sixth.
Spears tripled to right before scoring on Faith Chauvin’s single to center.
St. Thomas Aquinas ended the game in the sixth by scoring 10 runs, forcing the mercy rule in the 16-6 contest.
Six players had one hit for Franklinton.
Sanford and Spears had an extra base hit each with the homer and triple, respectively.
Mixon, Sanford, Shipley, Sandifer, Spears and Chauvin posted one hit each.
Sanford drove in two runs with the round tripper. Mixon, Capo, Chauvin and Felder had one RBI each.
Spears tallied twice while Adams, Sanford, Shipley and Sandifer scored once each.
Adams was the losing pitcher.
The softball brackets came out Thursday afternoon. Franklinton reached the postseason as the 29th-seeded team.
The Lady Demons are on the road for the opening round.
They are playing against fourth-seeded Lakeshore.
The winner faces either 13th-seeded Tioga or No. 20 Cabrini.
