Varnado defeats Independence, West Jefferson

Varnado’s Jaylan Jefferson drove in six runs, as the Wildcats were victorious over Independence, 15-5, in a road game held Friday.

Jefferson went three for three, which included a sacrifice fly and three runs scored.

Gary Crumedy also had a strong day at the plate. He had a hit in all four of his at bats with four runs scored and four stolen bases.

Errol Varnado posted two hits, three RBIs, two steals and two runs scored.

Xavier Moses was the winning pitcher after allowing three earned runs over five innings. Moses struck out four and walked three in the win.

The following day, Varnado topped West Jefferson, 10-8, as Armontee Kemp highlighted the offensive attack with two hits, four runs batted in, a triple, a steal and a sacrifice fly in the road game.

Varnado had one hit, drove in two and swiped two bases for the Wildcats.

Moses recorded two hits in three at bats.

Isaiah Alexander was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats.

He tossed six innings, allowing one earned run while striking out eight and walking two for the victory.
