FHS’ Williams wins overall MVP at meet

Franklinton’s Peter Williams took home overall MVP honors, and the Demons captured the Lakeshore Titan Games Track Classic on a sunsplashed Friday.

Williams got the honor after having three runner-up finishes to go with a fourth place.

He was runner-up in the triple jump (41-10.5), the high jump (5-8) and javelin (138-8). His fourth place tally was in the long jump (20-10).

Teammate Tavion Partman won the long jump at 21-9.5.

Varnado’s Delrick Abrams (21-1.5) was third in the long jump, followed by FHS’ Williams and Pine’s Derrick Dillon (20-4). Pine’s Tory Robertson (18-7) was seventh.

Abrams topped the triple jump at 41-11. Also locally in the triple jump, Franklinton’s Partman (40-6) was fourth and Pine’s Markell Cotton (38-9) finished sixth.

Lakeshore’s Nic Mullen, who was the boys’ outstanding field athlete, won the high jump at 6-1 and Archbishop Hannan’s Mitch Morel bested the javelin at 162-7.

Pine’s DeMarcus Fland (128-0), Franklinton’s Rodney King (120-3) and Pine’s Adarrius Berry (129-7) were fifth through seventh.

Also in the high jump, Pine’s Lowal Pittman (5-6) and Varnado’s Tyrandis Crosby (5-2) were fourth and fifth.

Franklinton captured the meet with 158 points, as seven teams competed.

De La Salle was runner-up (129), followed by the host school (93) and Archbishop Hannan (60).

Local schools occupied the final three spots with Bogalusa (43), fifth, Varnado (35), sixth, and Pine (31), seventh.

The Demons had three more individual winners. Martavius James was best in the 200 in 23.11 while Bryan Baham topped the 400 in 52.75 and Deante Cotton won the discus with a throw of 117-8.

James won the 200 by six one hundreths of a second, beating out Varnado’s Abrams (23.17) and Pine’s Dillon (23.23) in a close event.

Also in the 200, Bogalusa teammates De’Marlon Levi (25.13) and Javon Tate (25.46) along with Pine’s Cotton (25.60) ran ninth-11th, and Varnado’s Eddie Brooks (26.22) finished 12th.

In the 400, FHS’ Taylor Cooper (58.02) finished sixth. Varnado’s Quincy James (1:00), Bogalusa’ Kentrae Lewis (1:02.38), Varnado’s James Williams (1:02.41) and Pine teammates Eugene Keller (1:03) and Ty Galloway (1:04) ran eighth-12th.

Local athletes took the top three spots in the discus.

FHS’ Cotton won, followed by Franklinton’s P.J. Burkhalter (115-4) and Bogalusa’s Devonte Lenoir (107-2).

The Demons also won a pair of relay races, the 4×100 and 4×200.

Both relay teams consisted of Azende T. Magee, Markus Conerly, Partman and James. The 4×100 finished in 43.84 while the group ran the 4×200 in 1:31.

Bogalusa and Varnado were third and fourth in the 4×100 (46.04 and 47.13) and 4×200 (1:38 and 1:43).

The Lumberjacks 4×100 team featured Matthew Fox, Tate, Kelton Harry and Levi. The 4×200 squad consisted of Fox, Tate, Dionte Lenoir and Malon Robertson.

Varnado’s 4×100 team had Travon Stokes, Monte Kemp, Nick Darden and Crosby. The Wildcats’ 4×200 team had Desmond Harry, Kemp, Darden and Stokes.

Bogalusa had one individual winner in Dionte Lenior. He took home the top place in the 110-hurdles with a time of 17.46. He won by three one hundreths of a second over Hannan’s Griffin Hakenjos in another close race.

Franklinton’s King (17.67) was third.

Pine’s Dillon (10.62) was second in the 100, followed by Franklinton’s Magee (10.91) and Conerly (11.37). Tate (11.66) was sixth, Varnado’s Kevis Brooks (11.91) was ninth and Varnado’s Jacorrius Bickham (12.01) and Bogalusa’s Levi (12.16) ran 11th and 12th.

De La Salle’s Samaj Lewis was the winner in 10.59.

Franklinton’s William Walters was the top local finisher in the 800. He was third (2:18). Teammate Trenton Mizell was fifth (2:21). Pine’s Chase Cooper (2:35), Bogalusa’s Lewis (2:40), Varnado’s Darian Vargas (2:41) and Pine’s Jacob Branch (2:55) were ninth-12th.

Lakeshore’s Connor Shows, who was won the Outstanding Track winner, captured the 800 in 2:10.

Mizell was third in the 1,600 (5:19) while Pine’s Evan Sinopoli (5:45) took seventh. FHS’ Walters (6:11), Pine’s Galloway (6:24), and Varnado teammates Ardarryl McGowan (6:41) and Jalen Barnes (7:43) occupied spots ninth-12th.

Shows bested the event in 4:59.

Mizell (12:25) was fourth best in the 3,200. Sinopoli (13:09) and Franklinton’s Jacob Reeves (13:39) ran eighth and ninth.

De La Salle’s Tyler Mouton was the victor in 12:17.

Sinopoli (47.85) was third in the 300-hurdles, followed by Bogalusa teammates Dionte Lenoir (48.76) and Fox (49.12). Pine’s Pittman (51.37) and FHS’ King (51.96) and Walters (53.56) were ninth-12th.

De La Salle’s Myles Ward was victorious in 47.31.

Franklinton’s 4×400 relay team (4:03), which featured James, Conerly, King and Walters, was second to De La Salle. The Cavaliers ran in 3:54.

Pine’s group, which had Keller, Chase Cooper, Fland and Berry, was fifth (4:29).

Franklinton’s Burkhalter (47-7) and Cotton (44-10.5) were second and third in the shot put while Bogalusa’s Jonathan Simmons (37-9), Varnado’s Nick Blackburn (36-6) and Pine’s Brennon Kelly (35-3) were fifth-seventh.

De La Salle’s Cole Lewis topped the event at 49-9.

Franklinton’s Williams was runner up in the javelin (138-8) behind Hannan’s Mitch Morel. Morel had a throw of 162-7.

Bogalusa’s Robertson was third in the pole vault (9-6), as Lakeshore’s Mullen won the event at 12-6.
