Varnado’s Ja’Kyle Newkirk drove in three runs, helping the Wildcats defeat Amite, 7-4, in Saturday’s road game.

Newkirk finished with two hits in three at bats. One of his three RBIs came on a sacrifice fly. He also tripled and scored. Jaylan Jefferson went two for three with a pair of runs scored. Jeffery Seal drove in two and Xavier Moses posted two hits for the Wildcats.

Winning pitcher Jefferson allowed two earned runs while striking out nine and walking six over five innings. Moses picked up the save, allowing one run with four strikeouts and two walks over two innings.
