Three Washington Parish boys’ basketball teams have reached the playoffs, and the clubs will begin their postseason runs either today or tomorrow.

Two local teams qualified from Class 2A in Mt. Hermon and Pine while Varnado made it from Class 1A.

Mt. Hermon finished the regular season with a 14-7 record. The team tied Archbishop Hannan for tops in District 8-2A play at 7-1 but lost the tiebreaker game for the league title, 55-53.

The tiebreaker contest came down to the final seconds when Hannan knocked down a shot with three seconds remaining to pull off the win.

The Yellow Jackets had a chance after a timeout but were unable to hit a shot attempt at the buzzer.

Mt. Hermon is the 20th-seeded team.

The Yellow Jackets are on the road to face 13th-seeded Doyle this evening.

The game tips off at 6:30 p.m.

Doyle’s gym is located on the Doyle Elementary School campus.

Doyle had a 23-8 regular season record.

The winner of this evening’s contest goes against either fourth-seeded Welsh or 29th-seeded Winnfield.

Sticking with Class 2A, Pine is making a trip to North Caddo Magnet High today at 5:30 p.m.

Pine finished the regular season with a 14-15 record. The Raiders are seeded 28th while North Caddo is fifth-seeded. North Caddo has a 25-3 record.

The winner of this game faces either No. 12 Catholic of New Iberia or the 21st-seeded St. James.

Switching to Class 1A, Varnado is in the postseason and is going against a familiar opponent in Southern Lab this evening at 6 p.m.

The two are in the same district. Southern Lab won both district games against Varnado, 69-53 and 58-45.

The Wildcats enter with a 10-14 record and are the 25th-seeded team.

Southern Lab, which went 20-7 in the regular season, is seeded No. 8 in Class 1A.

The winner of this game will battle either ninth-seeded Delhi or 24th seeded Mangham.
