Franklinton’s Lady Demons suffered a 10-0 loss to Pearl River Friday in the District 6-II opener at PRHS.

The Lady Rebels got on the board just two minutes into the game off a corner kick. Bethany Moyle took the attempt and found Alicia Alexander, whose header found the back of the net, to give Pearl River a 1-0 advantage. That was Alexander’s first of three tallies.

The score went to 2-0 in the 14th minute. Alyssa Ross attempted a shot and it banked off the right upright and went in.

Franklinton had a scoring opportunity in the 23rd minute. Alex Wyble got in close but goalkeeper Shayna Washington scooped up the ball to keep it 2-0 with the game in the 23rd minute.

Franklinton then had a free kick about one-quarter field, but it was cleared by Pearl River.

The Lady Rebels then went on the counter attack, and Alexander tallied for a 3-0 cushion.

Just two minutes later, Alexander put the Lady Rebels back on the board when her shot was just inside of the left upright and good, and Pearl River was on top, 4-0.

“They’re a good team. They play the game the right way,” Franklinton coach Drew Brooks said.

Pearl River’s fifth goal came in the 30th minute off of a corner kick. Ross’ shot was good into the upper left corner of the goal to make it 5-0.

The final goal of the first was in the 35th minute, with Victoria Stewart posting the goal.

Pearl River led 6-0.

Franklinton had a chance in the 37th. The Lady Demons had an indirect kick in the box, but the shot was saved by Washington, and it remained a 6-0 game at halftime.

Despite the loss, coach Brooks said his team got better.

“When you play against a team that’s really good, it doesn’t do anything but help you,” Brooks said. “It always helps to play good competition.”

Brooks said he was proud of his team’s effort.

“I thought they played hard. They played with a lot of heart. I was proud of the effort,” Brooks said.

Pearl River tallied its seventh goal just two minutes into the second half, with Madison Roya finding the back of the net for a 7-0 lead.

The Lady Rebels added another on a long high shot by Ross that went in to give Pearl River an 8-0 advantage during the 49th.

Franklinton’s Bailey Fournier attempted to put the Lady Demons on the board, but her shot was saved.

Franklinton’s defense stopped a corner kick in the 53rd minute.

The Lady Rebels’ final two goals came during the final nine minutes, as Mackenzie Schween and Ross put in one each to reflect 10-0 final score.

The loss put Franklinton with a 3-2-1 overall record at press time. The Lady Demons played Salmen following Tuesday’s press time, and attempted to get to 1-1 in league play for the year.
