Franklinton’s Demons hung on to defeat Mt. Hermon, 50-48, on the final day of the Jimmy Magruder Tournament Saturday.
The event took place at Franklinton, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Franklinton led, 27-18, at halftime before Mt. Hermon nearly came back to tie things up late in the game.
Mt. Hermon had a chance to tie the game, but missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 1.5 seconds remaining.
After the miss, Franklinton ran out the clock.
Chelsea Armand scored 14 points to lead FHS’ scoring, which included three 3-pointers.
Shaikeria Fabré finished with 12 points, and she hit one from beyond the arc.
Deja Martin put up nine, while Jada Thompson had seven with a trey.
“We didn’t start out as well as I thought we should have,” Franklinton coach Elicia Crain said. “We didn’t make the shots I thought we should have. We just started out slow. We’re getting a different look at things, that I think we need to work on a little more.”
Mt. Hermon’s Nicole Riley led the Lady Jackets with 18 points, including three treys.
Kailee Hughes posted 11 and Jada Norman had nine. Hughes hit three 3-pointers.
Mt. Hermon coach Danny Seals spoke about the contest.
“It was a fast action game up and down the court,” Seals said. “They controlled the inside game. It was a seesaw game the second half. Both teams had many opportunities to score more points but missed shots they should have made.”
Franklinton finished 1-1 in the round robin tournament, while Mt. Hermon lost both games in the event.
The two teams both lost to Varnado, which went 2-0 in the event.
Franklinton was back in action Monday, while Mt. Hermon’s next game is Dec. 16 at home against Varnado.
Also, the all-tournament team was announced, consisting of Franklinton’s Fabré and Armand, Mt. Hermon’s Riley and Varnado’s Tarralyn Moses.
