Donald H. Shivers

Donald H. Shivers went to his heavenly home on Monday, Nov. 9, 2014, at the age of 82. Donald married the love of his life, Peggy, on June 10, 1950, then spent the next 64 years making wonderful memories and growing his family. He loved to fish, play golf and most of all spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donald’s father-in-law inspired him to pursue the field of electrical work where he joined and was a 50 year member in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 1077. He worked for Thurman Electric for over 30 years, and then he worked at Folmar Associates where he then retired after 10 years of dedicated service.

Donald leaves behind his beloved wife, Peggy Rogers Shivers; daughters, Donna Shivers Smith and husband J.B. of Baton Rouge and Terry Shivers Fitzsimmons of Hammond; brother, John Roy Shivers; grandchildren, Tammy Monistere Herrington, Kim Buhler Hall, Brian Monistere, James B. Smith III, Leigh Ann Fazio, Brent Monistere and Riley Fitzsimmons; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Delyce Shivers and Alene Simmons Kelley; daughter, Mickie Monistere Moffett; brother, Richard Shivers; his sister, Joanne Ferguson; and father and mother-in-law, David Sr. and Lucille Moffett Rogers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Holly Gardens Cemetery.
