Upward Basketball and Cheerleading Sign Ups

Hillcrest Upward Sports, a Christian based and oriented sports league, will be hosting signups for the 2015 Basketball and Cheer season 2-4 p.m. Oct. 26 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Franklinton. Participants may also register at the church office located at 2201 Washington St., Franklinton 70438.

The cost to signup for basketball is $55 and the cheer fee is $60.

Poker Run

The Memory Walkers of Washington Parish, an Alzheimer’s awareness organization, will be hosting a Poker Run Nov. 1 at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds to benefit Alzheimer’s Research & Awareness. Turkey Shoot

The Knights of Columbus Council 1819 is sponsoring the sixth annual Turkey Shoot Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Legion Home in Bogalusa.

Competitors will have a chance to shoot at a target and the closest to the bullseye wins a turkey.

The event features prizes, food and games. They are holding a raffle, costing $5 with first place getting $750 and second $250.

USM Fall Camps

The Southern Mississippi University baseball program is holding a Fall Showcase camp at Pete Taylor Park Nov. 22.

It is designed to allow current high school freshmen through junior college sophomore (junior college freshmen must be an academic qualifier) baseball players the chance to showcase their abilities and receive instruction from current Southern Miss. coaches, various junior college coaches, and other four-year institutions. The camp is set to take place at Pete Taylor Park, with registration beginning at 11 a.m.

The camp begins at noon and ends when all camp participants have completed the workout. The price per camper is $155. This cost includes instruction, insurance, and a camp T-shirt. The itinerary will include instruction specific to each participant’s defensive position, improving 60 times, and hitting at Pete Taylor Park. Any pitcher will be allowed to participate at both positions.

USM Lettermen Day

The Southern Miss. Department of Athletics is pleased to announce its first-ever Lettermen Day, set for Oct. 25, in conjunction with the school’s home football game against C-USA West Division foe, Louisiana Tech.

Game time is 2:30 p.m.

The university invites all former football players, equipment trainers, athletic trainers, cheerleaders and mascots who received letters, as well as former Southern Miss. football coaches throughout the years. As part of Lettermen Day, previous letter winners who are not current student-athletes will receive two complimentary tickets to the game.

They will also be invited to a pre-game cookout and be recognized as a collective group during halftime of the game. Letter winners that would like to attend are asked to RSVP to Holston Ryan, Graduate Assistant for Sports Marketing, via email at Holston.Ryan@eagles.usm.edu or by phone 601-266-4744.
