Franklinton scored the game’s first 19 points, Azende T. Magee had another huge game rushing the ball, and the Demons’ defense was strong once again in a 39-13 victory over Amite on the road Friday.

“Amite’s got an outstanding football team,” Franklinton coach Shane Smith said. “They were in the (Class 3A) semifinals last year. We knew it would be a test. We wanted to finish the first half of the season strong. Our defense is starting to hit its stride. Our coaches are to be commended. I feel like guys are where they need to be on the defensive side of the ball. We made a few changes and it’s working.”

Magee broke the 190-yard plateau once again. He ran for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Magee has 389 yards rushing and six touchdowns over the last two weeks.

Franklinton (4-1) had an opportunity to take a commanding lead at halftime. The Demons were ahead 19-0 with fewer than 30-seconds left in the first half and had the ball inside of Amite’s 5, but the Warriors came up with a big play. Devanta Smith intercepted Mike Wilson at the goal line and took it the distance to make the halftime score 19-7.

Wilson finished with 149 passing yards with a touchdown and two picks. Chandler Davis led Franklinton’s receivers with three catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. Tavion Partman caught one pass for 37 yards and DeAndre Allen added three receptions for 29 yards.

Relik Wilson also scored a touchdown for the Demons.

Defensively, Franklinton scored its third touchdown in two weeks. Amite tried a bubble screen at its 10. The Demons forced a fumble, and Percy Briggs recovered it in the end zone.

Smith said Relik Wilson made some big plays Friday night, including stopping a fake punt by the Warriors.

Amite’s final tally came with about eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, which made the final score 39-13.

Franklinton is back on the road Friday for its District 8-4A opener. The Demons are traveling to Pearl River to face the Rebels.
