Washington Parish begins school year

From Franklinton High School to Wesley Ray Elementary School in Angie, all Washington Parish School System students reported to classes Friday for the first day of school.

Wesley Ray Elementary instructs students in pre-K through fifth grade. The school has a new principal this year in Kewanda August-Bickham. She was the faculty coordinator last year.

School officials estimated the school will have approximately 325 students by the time everybody is registered for class.

During Friday’s assembly, August-Bickham, Literacy Coordinator Patsy Breland and Faculty Coordinator Angela Kennedy addressed students.

New Wesley Ray teachers for the 2014-2015 school year include Sharronda Smith, Amanda Sanchez, Katilyn McNeece, Tina Bickham and Elaine Robinson.

At Varnado High School, Principal Randy Branch got the day started off addressing the students in the gymnasium and introducing new faculty members.

First-year Varnado staff members include Karen Boudion, Julie Guy, Carol Mitchell, Miranda Carpenter, Michael Loper, Martin Gray, Kristina Varnado, Shirley Smith, Rhonda Gunnell and Jim McDaniel.

Varnado High School educates students in grades 6-12.

All Bogalusa City School System students reported for the first day of classes on Thursday morning.
