Former Varnado teacher and lifetime resident Robert Boone has announced his candidacy for the District 5 seat of the Washington Parish School Board. Boone served as agriculture teacher, assistant principal and principal during his 30-year tenure at Varnado High School.

Boone said he fully understands the importance of providing our youth a competitive education that prepares them for a global world. “We are dealing with the most precious commodity, our children,” he said.

“I am pursuing this position as a commitment to maximize student achievement in academics as well as vocational/technical areas,” he said. “I plan to focus on student needs for all parish schools.”

I firmly believe that the children of Washington Parish are very deserving of the best we can offer. I plan to put the spotlight on our students and let the world know that our graduates can compete on any level.”

Boone feels that his 30 years of experience uniquely qualifies him to serve as the District 5 school board member.

Boone’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of agriculture education from Mississippi State University. He obtained a master’s degree in administration/supervision from Southeastern Louisiana University and is NCCER certified in welding and construction.

He and his wife, Jacqueline Ryals Boone, are the proud parents of five children and have been blessed with a grandson.

The election is scheduled for Nov. 4, 2014. This will be the Tuesday after the Washington Parish Free Fair.
