Bogalusa football team is in action today and tomorrow in the National Select Southeast Invitational 7-on-7 Regional Qualifier Tournament is Lakeshore High School.

BHS coach Craig Jones said the tournament helps his team.

“We throw the ball, so it helps us out against teams in seeing the different coverages,” Jones said. “It helps the timing with our quarterbacks and wide receivers and how to handle the different looks. It also helps our secondary in their coverages. Our kids enjoy it too because they want to go against somebody instead of themselves all of the time.”

The tourney is important, as the winner qualifies for National Select 7-on-7 Tournament, which is July 17-19 in Hoover, Ala.

“I told the kids that we want to compete,” Jones said. “This is a component to the Hoover Tournament, so it would be a great accomplishment if we could win this. We’re going out there to compete and get better. We also want to win because we want to go to the tournament in Hoover.”

Jones said both quarterbacks Reggie Roberts and Tym Toussaint will see time at signal caller.

Teams play five games today. BHS begins at 2:30 against Hancock County before facing Chalmette at 4. At 5, the Jacks play Fontainebleau. BHS wraps things up at 6:30 and 7 against Ponchatoula and Holy Cross respectively.
