Bogalusa is on the field in front of its fans tomorrow evening, as the Lumberjacks take on KIPP Renaissance High for its spring game.
The action begins at 6 p.m.
Coach Craig Jones, who enters this season with a 35-44 career record as Bogalusa’s head coach, said he’s looking for overall execution and physicality on both lines.
“We’re trying to see execution out of both sides of the ball offensively and defensively,” Jones said. “We’re trying to see who can be physical on the offensive and defensive line.”
Jones said it’s exciting to play someone else.
“The players have been itching to see someone in a different uniform,” Jones said.
Bogalusa’s young football team picked up some valuable experience, which could help them in the upcoming season.
The 2013 roster featured 13 seniors, five juniors, 15 sophomores, 12 freshmen and an eighth grader.
The squad had some growing pains last season, posting a 4-7 record. The Lumberjacks were a Class 3A playoff team and made it, as the 27th seeded team. Bogalusa lost to sixth seeded Richwood 33-0. Richwood was eliminated by 11th Kaplan 14-7 in the regional round.
Bogalusa played in two games that were decided by one possession and captured both of them.
Renaissance, located in New Orleans, enters its second year of having a varsity football team. Last year, the club finished with a 4-4 record.
The Bobcats are competing in LHSAA for the first time this season and will be eligible for playoff contention beginning in the 2015 season.
Admission for tomorrow’s spring game is $5.
