The student body at Varnado High School, led by its Student Council, recently donated spare change to a program called Pennies for Patients, a fundraiser for patients diagnosed with blood cancers. During the week-long drive, VHS students in grades six through 12 raised $308.88, mostly in pennies. This drive hits close to home for VHS, where several students have suffered from or are currently being treated for blood cancers. Pennies for Patients is sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through its school and youth programs. It was VHS’s first time to participate in the fundraiser.
