Boys
Franklinton beats Pearl River
Franklinton’s Logan Seal and Adrian Magee both recorded double-doubles Friday in a 62-52 District 8-4A road victory over Pearl River.
Seal scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Magee finished with 11 points and 12 boards. Tray Anders tallied 12 points in the victory.
Franklinton is 15-8 overall and 3-1 in district going into Thursday’s home game against Salmen. The contest was originally scheduled for Friday but was pushed up a day. The game gets under way after the girls matchup against Salmen, which begins at 6 p.m.
Pine tops Hannan in district game
Pine’s Hunter Cooper scored 21 points to help lead the Raiders past Archbishop Hannan 60-52 in a District 8-2A game Friday at Pine.
Cody Cooper finished with 13, while Jordan Phelps posted 10.
Pine was 9-17 overall and 4-2 in district heading into yesterday’s game against Mt. Hermon.
Madison Prep edges Varnado
Varnado nearly defeated last year’s Class B state champion Madison Prep, but lost to the District 6-1A foe 70-65 on the road Friday.
The game was tied 57-57 with three minutes left.
Varnado missed 13 free throws in the game.
Despite the loss, coach Brad Oestriecher said it was the most complete game the Wildcats have played this season.
D.J. Jefferson had a big game, scoring 26 points for the Wildcats (17-9, 1-4 at press time). Delrick Abrams and Keith Allen both finished with 10, and Allen Alexander had seven.
Mt. Hermon falls to NCS
Mt. Hermon suffered a 73-56 setback to Northlake Christian School in a District 8-2A game held Friday at NCS.
Corterio Williams led Mt. Hermon with 21 points, while Jessie Pouncey scored 18. Zachary Hyatt recorded seven, with Curtis Martin at six. Gerald Bunch and Dylan Clark both had two.
Mt. Hermon was 7-11 overall and 3-3 in league play going into yesterday’s contest against Pine.
Girls
Lady Demons top Pearl River
Franklinton’s Chelsea Armand scored 25 points and hit eight of 11 on 3-point attempts in a 62-35 victory over Pearl River in Friday’s District 8-4A road contest.
Haley Sellers put up 13 points for FHS, which led 21-12 at halftime. Amber Carter tallied 12, while Tyeishia Anders recorded nine and Shakeria Fabre added three in the win.
FHS is 18-5 overall and 5-1 in district. The Lady Demons host Salmen tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Pine rolls past Hannan
Pine’s Breyanna Brown scored 25 points in the Lady Raiders’ 64-37 victory over Archbishop Hannan in a District 8-2A game held at home Friday.
Pine entered Tuesday’s game with Mt. Hermon with a 19-9 overall record and was 6-0 in league play.
Varnado downs Madison Prep
Varnado’s Tarralyn Moses scored 23 points Friday to help her club beat Madison Prep 61-39 on the road in District 6-1A play.
Errielle Stewart scored 14 points, while Sequoya Kemp and Yienna Kemp both finished with seven. Ke’arria Green posted five with Bianca Holmes adding four for Varnado (12-12, 6-1 at press time).
Mt. Hermon beats NCS on road
Mt. Hermon’s Kiara Williams scored 16 points in a 44-38 victory over Northlake Christian School in District 8-2A play held Friday at NCS.
Williams was one of three players to reach double figures for Mt. Hermon. Jada Norman scored 11 points, while Dorothy Taylor tallied 10. Paris Mack finished with four, while Nicole Riley added three.
Mt. Hermon began yesterday at 5-15 overall and 4-2 in league play.
