SIMMONS

“Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.” — Matthew 5:5 “ Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” — Psalm 116:15                                                                                                “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

So was the life of Margaret Ellen Simmons, who passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at the age of 71.

She was a native of Bogalusa, born July 6, 1942, and a longtime resident of Cocoa, Fla. She attended high school at St. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa, Miss., and St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans.

Margaret Ellen is survived by her siblings, Jim Simmons of North Carolina; Mary “Teeny” Simmons and Jill S. Walters, both of Baton Rouge; Steven Simmons of Bogalusa; Tommy Simmons of Washington; Tim Simmons of Baton Rouge; and Brad Martin of Colorado; as well as her ever loving stepmother, Geri Simmons of Colorado.

Her parents, Margaret and Jack Simmons, preceded her in death.

Margaret Ellen will be missed dearly by her aunts, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. We will miss her quick wit, gift of storytelling and memories of family history, but we rejoice with her as she enjoys the eternal life in heaven. Our family would like to express special appreciation to her devoted friend, guardian and mentor, Barbara Dickes Halgren.

The family is planning a memorial service to take place in Bogalusa in the coming year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary of the Pines, care of Sister Ruth Hinderer, 3167 Old Highway 51 South, Osyka, MS 63957.
