Busy Bees celebrate grandparents

Mrs. Dee Gibson’s Pre-K 3 “Busy Bees” at Annunciation Catholic School recently spent a week learning about families. The children discussed how families work together, follow family rules and pray together as a family.

Each child made a graph with the number of people in his or her family.

They brought pictures of their grandparents to school and made a grandparent quilt to adorn the bulletin board in the hallway. During religion class, the children learned that St. Anne and St. Joachim were the maternal grandparents of Jesus.

At the end of the week, the children joined with the rest of the school to celebrate Grandparents’ Day. The Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4 and kindergarten classes sang, “If You Really Love Your Grandparents, Clap Your Hands,” to the grandparents in church ending with “blow a kiss,” and made a path for the grandparents to walk through as they left the church. Everyone had refreshments in the cafetorium and pictures were taken. Then the grandparents visited classrooms, where they viewed the grandparents’ quilt, and the children gave them a poem, a handprint and a special “honey bag.”
