Franklinton High School 2012 graduate Karlton Ginn has signed a letter of intent to attend East Central Mississippi Community College in Decatur, Miss. and play golf for the Warriors.

The school is about 30 miles west of Meridian.

“I like it,” Ginn said. “It’s a little school up there. It’s not too big or too small. I don’t have any friends up there, but I had to do what was best for my future. I didn’t have to think about it too hard, it took me about a week. Coach Chris Clark is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. When we went up there for the tour and I had to play in front of him, he answered any questions I had. He gave me his number in case I had other questions. We keep in touch everyday.”

Ginn, who went to Delgado Community College in New Orleans this past school year, didn’t play this past season after having elbow surgery. He broke his elbow at the beginning of basketball season his senior year at Franklinton. He had to have surgery last summer because the pins started coming out.

Ginn, who works at Money Hill Golf and Country Club in Abita Springs, shot his lowest round there with a 68.

Ginn feels he is a better golfer now than he was in high school.

“Something clicked when I got out of high school. I wasn’t bad in high school, I was in the top 10 in the state my senior year,” Ginn said.

During Ginn’s time at Franklinton, the Demons won three district titles and he finished in Class 4A’s top 10 twice. Ginn was eighth his junior year and ninth his senior season.

Ginn said his strength is ball striking.

Karlton is the son of Randall and Christine Ginn.
