Trenton N. Kates, the 23-year-old son of Bogalusa City School Board President Paul Kates and his wife, Vickie, graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge on Friday, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a 2008 graduate of Bogalusa High School.

He is the grandson of the late Tom and Gussie Kates and James Tate of St. Louis, Mo., and Sadie Tate of Bogalusa.
