BHS’ Graves qualifies for state track meet

Bogalusa discus thrower Jalen Graves has qualified for the Class 3A state track and field meet, which is be ing held May 4 at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.

The discus thrower needed to finish in the top three at the Region III Class 3A meet, which occurred Tuesday at Jewel Sumner. The meet was originally scheduled for Wednesday but was pushed up a day due to weather concerns.

Graves finished second in the discus with a throw of 128-7. Port Allen’s Darian Clai borne was first at 132-2.

Jewel Sumner won the meet with 120 points, as 15 teams recorded points.

Port Allen was second, 22 points behind with Lusher Charter (95) next. Brusly (70) was fourth and Loranger (30), Miller-McCoy and E.D. White tied for fifth.

Bogalusa was eighth, logging 22 points.

Lusher’s Ricky Theyard captured the long jump (23-1.25) and triple jump (46-9), while teammate Willie Reed topped the high jump (6-0).

The host school’s Dev in King bested the pole vault (16-6).

Port Allen’s Darian Claiborne won the shot put (50-2) and javelin (173-2).

Jewel Sumner was victorious in all three re lays, the 4×100 (43.04), 4×200 (1:27) and 4×400 (3:28).

Sumner’s Leonel Mor eno captured the 1,600 (4:38) and 3,200 (10:36).

Port Allen’s Nicholaus Parker topped the 110 hurdles (15.61), while Loranger’s Jeryl Brazil placed first in the 100 (11.00).

Miller McCoy’s Justin Thomas won the 800 (2:01), Sumner’s Kalon Bergeron topped the 400 (48.23), Brusly’s Ter rance West took the 300 hurdles (40.60) and Sumner’s Brandon Jynes was the 200-meter winner (22.37).
