Sumrall wins 3,200 for BFCS in district meet

Ben’s Ford Christian Academy’s Haley Sumrall captured the 3,200 meters and finished fourth in the 1,600 during Friday’s District 8A meet at Prentiss Christian School in Mississippi.

Sumrall won the 3,200 in 15:35 and finished the 1,600 in 7:35.

Lamar’s Laura Chatham won the 1,600 (6:54) and 800 (2:55).

The host school won the four-team meet with 94 points. Lamar Christian (74) was second, followed by Heidelberg Academy (51) and Ben’s Ford (18).

The competition was a qualifier. The top four finishers from each event made it to the South State meet, which is being held at Silliman Institute today and Saturday.

The field events are today with the track portion of the meet Saturday.

Heidleberg’s Rebecca Fries won the shot put (29-0), while teammate Emily Tuminello topped the discus (73-8).

Ben’s Ford’s Hayleigh McGehee finished runner-up in the discus (69-0).

The host school’s Taylor Dumas won the high jump (4-4).

Teammate Ainsley Verdun took the long jump (14-0.25) and triple jump (28-5).

Prentiss’ Bayleigh Foster was victorious in both hurdles, the 100 (18.70) and 300 (1:00).

Lamar Christian topped the 4×100 relay (58.10), 4×200 (2:04) and 4×400 (5:03).

Ben’s Ford recorded fourth-place finishes in both the 4×100 (1:09) and 4×200 (2:34).

Lamar’s Faith Brooks took the top spot in the 100 (14.10) and 200 (29.80) with teammate Rachel Engle winning the 400 (1:13).

Ben’s Ford’s Sophia Knight was fourth in the 400 (1:21).
