Varnado’s Wildcats were swept in doubleheaders Tuesday and Thursday.

The Wildcats lost to Archbishop Hannan 12-1 and 20-3 at Coquille Sports Complex Tuesday.

Varnado trailed 2-0, as the teams began the bottom of the third. Hannan broke the game open with a six-run frame to make it 8-0.

The Hawks added four more in the fourth to make it 12-0.

Varnado put up a run in the fifth, but could not avoid the mercy rule in the 12-1 loss.

Jaylan Jefferson had the Wildcats only hit in the first game.

Varnado also lost the second game. Hannan put up eight runs in the second inning to break things open.

Jefferson doubled. D.J. Jefferson, Errol Varnado, Robbie Smith and Xavier Moses all recorded one hit for Varnado.

Varnado coach Paul Smith said his team was contending in the opening game.

“They just outplayed us in the second,” Smith said. “I think losing the first game kind of broke our spirit. It’s tough when you’re playing the defending district champion.”

In Thursday’s action, Varnado lost to Christian Life 13-1 and 8-3 at the Bogalusa Sports Complex.
