Cooper takes 2nd in javelin at District 9-4A meet

Franklinton’s Quinton Cooper finished runner-up in the javelin, as the Demons had several athletes qualify for regionals at the District 9-4A Meet Wednesday.

The event, which was hosted by Pearl River and took place at Salmen High, was a qualifying meet. The top four finishers from each event advanced to the regionals, which occur Wednesday at East Jefferson.
Ducre also won the shot put (46-0) and discus (142-4).
Lakeshore’s Nicholas Mullen captured the pole vault (10-0), while Salmen’s Aaron Craig took the high jump (6-4).
Lakeshore’s Jared Scott won the long jump (20-10) and triple jump (41-3).
Franklinton’s Tavien Partman made it to regionals with a fourth place finish in the triple jump (36-6).
Hammond bested the 4×200 relay (1:31), while Salmen’s James Bennet took the 800 (2:14), 1,600 (4:54) and 3,200 (11:36).
Franklinton’s Da’Keithan Gholar made it with a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 (13:41).
Lakeshore’s Cyril Crutchfield won the 110-hurdles (15.64) with Salmen’s Vernel Turner (39.68) topping the 300-hurdles.
Hammond’s Giovanni Lee was best in the 100 (10.96).
Salmen took the 4×100 (44.81) with Franklinton (45.40) runner-up.
Lakeshore’s Rex Shephard was victorious in the 400 (52.03).
Salmen’s Deonte Cooper won the 200 (22.58), while Franklinton’s Martavius James (22.90) was fourth.
Hammond captured the 4×400 (3:38) with Franklinton (3:58) third.
