BHS’ Graves wins 2 field events at meet

Bogalusa’s Jalen Graves won a pair of events and qualified for regionals in the District 8-3A meet held Wednesday at Jewel Sumner.

Graves captured the shot put (43-10) and discus (127-10). Teammate Cedric Porter was the high jump winner (5-8). Bogalusa’s Matthew Melton finished third in the shot put (42-0), while teammate James Lorenzo was fourth in the high jump (5-6).

The top four finishers from each event advance to the regionals, which are back at Sumner next Wednesday.

The host school won the six-team meet with 220 points. Loranger (99) was runner-up, followed by Bogalusa (62), Amite (58) and Albany (54).

Sumner’s Joseph Dickerson won the long jump (21-10), while teammate Benjamin Jones won the triple jump (41-10.5).

Sumner’s Devin King bested the pole vault (16-0), with teammate Freddie Moreno winning the javelin (158-8).

Sumner won the 4×200-meter relay (1:27). Bogalusa’s team of Porter, Christopher Lowery, Tyran Holloway and Reginald Roberts finished third (1:37).

Sumner’s Leonel Moreno topped the 800 (2:07), 1,600 (4:44) and 3,200 (10:43). Loranger’s Desmond Magee won the 110-meter hurdles (17.28).

Loranger’s Jeryl Brazil captured the 100 (10.77) and 200 (22.76). Porter was third in the 200 (24.40).

Sumner bested the 4×100 (42.67), while Sumner’s Kalon Bergeron won the 400 (49.97).

Sumner’s Josh Trout topped the 300-hurdles (44.10) and Sumner placed first in the 4×400 (3:34). �
